Timing Tips

• Keep it under 3 hours. The guest of honor is likely uncomfortable (literally). Don't drag it out.
• Gift opening strategy. Have someone next to the parent-to-be writing down gifts and givers. Open the big items first — strollers and car seats take 5 minutes to unwrap.
• Games: quality over quantity. Two well-chosen games beat five mediocre ones. Pick games that involve everyone, not just the loudest person in the room.
• Serve food early. People drove to get there, they're hungry. Don't make them wait an hour for tiny sandwiches.
