Gender Reveal Party Timeline Template (Free)

The whole point of a gender reveal is one moment — the reveal. Everything else (food, games, decorations) is just the build-up. Your timeline should create anticipation and make sure the reveal happens when everyone is together, paying attention, and phones are out.

How Long Is a Gender Reveal Party?

90 minutes to 2 hours. It's a party, not an all-day affair. Guests arrive, eat, play a game or two, the reveal happens, everyone celebrates, cake is served, done.

Sample Gender Reveal Timeline (Afternoon)

  • 2:00 PM — Guests arrive, snacks + drinks set out
  • 2:15 PM — Cast your vote: boy or girl? (voting board or sticker system)
  • 2:30 PM — Game 1: Old wives' tales quiz
  • 2:45 PM — Game 2: Baby name brainstorm or baby bingo
  • 3:00 PM — Gather everyone together. Phones up.
  • 3:05 PM — THE REVEAL (balloon pop, confetti cannon, cake cut, smoke bomb — your call)
  • 3:15 PM — Celebration, photos, hugs
  • 3:30 PM — Cake + desserts
  • 4:00 PM — Event wraps

Reveal Method Options

  • Balloon box — Open a box, colored balloons float out. Simple, photogenic.
  • Confetti cannon — Loud, dramatic, great on video. Do it outdoors.
  • Cake or cupcake — Cut into it to reveal pink or blue inside. Double duty as dessert.
  • Smoke bomb — Outdoor only. Looks incredible in photos but dissipates fast — have the photographer ready.
  • Scratch-off card — Each guest gets one. Everyone reveals at the same time.

Planning Tips

  • Don't bury the reveal. It should happen in the first hour. If you wait too long, guests get antsy and the energy drops.
  • Tell the photographer the exact time. They need to be in position with the right lens before you open that box.
  • Have a backup plan for weather. If your reveal is outdoor (smoke bomb, balloon release), know where you'll move if it rains.
  • Keep it to close family and friends. 15-30 guests is ideal. Too many people and the moment gets diluted.
