Rehearsal Dinner Timeline Template (Free)
The rehearsal dinner sets the tone for wedding weekend. It's more relaxed than the wedding itself, but it still needs structure — especially if you're hosting 30+ people, coordinating toasts, or running a slideshow.
Standard Rehearsal Dinner Timeline
- 5:00 PM — Wedding rehearsal at ceremony venue
- 5:45 PM — Rehearsal wraps, group travels to dinner venue
- 6:30 PM — Welcome drinks and mingling
- 7:00 PM — Guests seated, welcome remarks from hosts
- 7:15 PM — First course / dinner service begins
- 7:45 PM — Toasts begin (best man, maid of honor, parents)
- 8:15 PM — Slideshow or activity (optional)
- 8:30 PM — Dessert
- 9:00 PM — Gift exchange / thank-yous to wedding party
- 9:30 PM — Evening wraps
Timing Tips
- Don't start dinner too late. Everyone has an early morning tomorrow. Aim to wrap by 9:30 PM.
- Cap toasts at 3-4 people. Save the rest for the reception. Rehearsal dinner toasts that run 45 minutes kill the energy.
- Buffer between rehearsal and dinner. People need time to freshen up and travel. 45-60 minutes is ideal.
- Seat strategically. Mix families so people meet before the wedding. Put the chattiest people near the quiet ones.
Who to Invite
Traditionally: wedding party, immediate family, out-of-town guests, and their plus-ones. Modern approach: invite everyone on the wedding guest list if budget allows — it's becoming more common and removes awkward exclusion.
